This spring, PLUS, IPG’s LGBTQ+ Business Resource Group, hosted “The Past, Present and Future of LGBTQ+ Rights in America” for all U.S. employees. The virtual webinar aimed to educate members of PLUS and their allies on the history of LGBTQ+ people in the U.S., current legislation impacting the community, and how to show up as an ally.
Facilitated by Robert Shmalo (he/him), partner of Proskauer and active member of Proskauer’s LGBTQ+ Lawyer Affinity Group, the fireside chat with Lambda Legal CEO Kevin Jennings (he/him) touched on why there is an increase in anti-LGBTQ+ legislation, how these new bills disproportionately impact communities of color, and how corporations and individuals can support the LGBTQ+ community during this time. Jennings also provided a deep dive into the long and complex history of the LGBTQ+ community and the U.S. judicial system.
